Mora y Cañas Park has several aspects that make it historically and culturally important in the province of Puntarenas.
In this park it bears the name of two heroes of the country: Juan Rafael Mora Porras and General Jose María Cañas, who were shot here in 1860. In addition, it has the first drinking water storage tank in the region, which is now considered an Architectural Heritage.
The remodeling design of this park arises from the idea that the only witness to the death of Juan Rafael Mora Porras and José María Cañas is the Sun. From this idea, the solar trajectory of September 30 is taken , the day they were shot, and stripes are created throughout the park that would mark the different hours of the day.
